Getting There BY CAR: Take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 53 - Sagtikos Parkway South to "Southern State Parkway - Eastern Long Island." Take Southern State Parkway to first exit; Exit 42 - South - "Fifth Avenue." Make a left at the exit ramp stop sign and right onto Fifth Avenue (heading south). Go to the first traffic light after crossing the railroad tracks and make a left onto Union Boulevard. Turn right (at 3rd light) onto Fourth Avenue. Continue past second set of traffic lights. Fourth Avenue becomes Maple Avenue. Turn RIGHT into the OCEAN BAY PARK/SEAVIEW Ferry terminal. You can park there for the week, or try across the street in the Marina (they usually advertise better rates). You can also park at the Bay Shore LIRR station, but it is not secured. (Most people usually only leave their car there for the weekend.) BY TRAIN (From NYC): Call the Long Island Railroad at (718 or 631) 217-LIRR. They have automated schedule & fare information from Penn Station (or Brooklyn) to Bay Shore. The web links to the LIRR website for train times from Penn station to Bay Shore are: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/lirr/html/ttn/ bayshore.htm and http://lirr42.mta.info/index.asp Off-peak tickets are $9.50 each way ($13.00 Peak). You'll change to a diesel train - either at Jamaica or Babylon. Travel time is about 1¼ hours. All trains are met by TAXI VANS (Tommy's or David's) at the Bay Shore station that can get you to the OCEAN BAY PARK ferry in five minutes ($4.00 per person). Make sure you DON'T get off the van at the OCEAN BEACH terminal. Always ask and make sure you're at the right dock before you get out! The walk from the train station is about ¾ mile and takes 20-25 min. Not a good idea if time is tight, it's late at night or you have a lot of luggage. BY SHUTTLE VAN (From NYC): Call David's (631-665-1515) or Tommy's (631-665-4800) for schedules & pickup locations. It's about $20 each way to or from NYC. You can get a private taxi from either company (and from some NYC car services) for about $125. Travel time can vary from one to two hours, depending on traffic. BY FERRY: Call the Fire Island Ferries at 631-665-2115 or 631-665-3600 for schedule and fare information - or check their website. The website also has good directions, island information and helpful links. Round-trip tickets are $14.00 (less for kids & dogs). They will charge you extra for lots of boxes - especially on a crowded boat. Bikes and large items are not taken on passenger boats. If you need to bring something out, call ahead and find out how they'll ship it. The trip takes about 30 min. MAKE SURE THE BOAT IS AT OCEAN BAY PARK BEFORE GETTING OFF!! (It usually stops at Seaview first. Ask before getting off.) |
